How do I update?
You can download a patch to update a bug when switching
from portrait to landscape.
Click here to download the patch.
Currently users who purchase a retail boxed
copy of Battery Pack Pro are not entitled to any updates or
upgrades. However, if you wish to purchase the latest version
of Battery Pack Pro at a healthy discount, click here.
Installation
How do I install?
- You should have received a file called "BPPOL.exe" or
similar - copy it to a folder on your PC. You can rename to
another name if you like.
- Make sure your Pocket PC is connected correctly to your
PC, and that ActiveSync is showing it as properly connected.
- Open up this folder and double click on this file. A
window should open asking you to unzip some files. Click
"Extract". Don't change anything on this screen
- Installation should begin. If it fails, please
instructions.
Battery Pack Pro won't install
(installing from a PC)
If you are having trouble with the standard method of
installation you can use this alternative method instead. This
specifically involves locating the .cab file in the c:\Program
Files\Omega One\BPP directory:
- Dock the Pocket PC.
- Right click on the ActiveSync icon on the system tray
and select "Explore".
- Open an explorer window where the batt.arm.cab file is
on your desktop PC (usually c:\Program Files\Omega One\BPP).
- On the desktop pc drag the .cab file from the Explorer
window and drop it into the ActiveSync Explore window (this
copies the file to the Pocket PC).
- Undock the Pocket PC and select Start | Programs | File
Explorer.
- Find the .cab file and tap on it. Installation will
begin.
Installing (no PC available)
If no PC is available, the Battery Pack Pro cab file should
be used to install directly to the Pocket PC. This file can be
requested from most places that sell Battery Pack Pro. Just
ask for the "over the air" version or "cab file" version.
Once the cab file has been received, copy it to any folder
on your Pocket PC using the normal method you use to copy
files to the Pocket PC. Once it's been copied over, select
Start | Programs | File Explorer on your Pocket PC and
navigate to the folder the cab file was copied to. Tap on the
cab file to run it. Installation will begin.
Installing an "over the air" or ".cab
file" version
"Over the air" is meant for wireless download. Customers
receive a ".cab" file, which is copied to the Pocket PC and
installs from there (instead of from the desktop). It's
basically a different method of installation usually used by
Mac owners and people who do not use a desktop pc, or if
downloading directly to the Pocket PC from a wireless network.
If you receive a single ".cab" file, you will need to use
this method to install:
- Dock the Pocket PC.
- Right click on the ActiveSync icon on the system tray
and select "Explore".
- Open a window where the .cab file is on your PC.
- Drag the .cab file into the ActiveSync Explore window
(copies the file to the Pocket PC).
- Undock the Pocket PC and select Start | Programs | File
Explorer.
- Find the .cab file and tap on it. Installation will
begin.
Battery
Pack won't install on my original Pocket PC device
From v5.1.1 Battery Pack doesn't come with SH3 and MIPS
files, which were used by original Pocket PC devices
(excluding the Compaq iPAQ). However, you can still install
the latest version of Battery Pack:
First, check your Pocket PC processor type. See
Start|Settings|About. It will either list an SH3 processor or
a MIPS processor. SH3 users should download
this version,
MIPS users should download
this version.
Once you've copied the files to your PC, unzip them, then
copy the file to your Pocket PC. Uninstall your current
version of Battery Pack, then use File Explorer to run the
file. It should install on your system.
How do I get my free update?
Battery Pack customers who purchased before April 21st
2004 can receive free updates by uninstalling their previous
full version of Battery Pack, then installing the latest demo
version from here.
This will result in the latest full version of Battery Pack on
the Pocket PC.
Alternately, you can install from the place you originally
purchased from. See the e-mail receipt you received when you
purchased Battery Pack. When you install, bypass the
registration code screen by tapping "Enter" (on the on-screen
keypad). This will install the latest full version of Battery
Pack.
If you don't have the previous full version and need a new
copy, contact our tech support
department with your order details.
Battery Pack Pro asks me for a
registration code
When you purchased Battery Pack Pro, you should have
received an e-mail with a unique registration code in it. This
code should be a combination of ten letters & numbers. When
Battery Pack Pro asks you for the registration code, enter
this code and tap OK to unlock the product.
If you purchased a previous version of Battery Pack, you will need to repurchase to get Battery Pack Pro.
Click here to purchase for a greatly
discounted price.
Am I installing the demo or full
version?
The demo version will end in "D" (i.e. "BPPOD.EXE") and
the full version will end in "L" (i.e. "BPPOL.exe").
Alternately, it will tell you on the first unzip screen. The
title bar will have "(trial)" at the end.
Uninstallation
How do I
uninstall?
You need to go to Start | Settings | System | Remove
Programs. Then highlight Battery Pack Pro and tap Remove.
Follow the instructions on the screen (soft reset the device
and repeat the ‘remove programs’ procedure).
Battery Pack / Battery Pack Pro
won't uninstall (.dll file still in use)
You need to first do a soft reset, then install Battery Pack
/ Battery Pack Pro again. When it says programs are running (Battbar.dll
most likely), continue with the installation and just don't
copy over this file. It's very important installation
completes, although copying over the files running doesn't
matter.
You should then be able to uninstall. See the
Help file for
information on how uninstallation should occur. Note, you will
need to perform a soft reset before uninstallation will be
successful.
Then please install the full version (BPPOL.exe) of Battery
Pack / Battery Pack Pro. It should install without any
warnings of files in use and all should work. You should
install to main memory (if you have a storage card it will ask
you).
Version
What version of Battery Pack / Battery
Pack Pro am I using?
When you install the program you can click on the help icon
on the Battery Bar and it will tell you the major version
number e.g 2.0.2.
Alternatively when you run the BPPOL.EXE (or similar)
install file it tells you the full version number, e.g. 2.0.2,
on the extract screen (the version is in the title bar).
Battery Pack Pro (Smartphone)
I
can't see anything on the home screen
To enable the Battery Bar and Program
Bar home screen plug-ins, go to Start | Battery Pack Pro, then
select "1 Add/Remove plug-ins". Select "Both", then press the
"Add" soft key. The plug-ins will be added.
If a problem occurs during adding, go to
Start | Settings | Home Screen and change "Home screen layout"
to "Windows Default", "Color scheme" to "Default" and
"Background Image" to "Default".
Battery Pack Pro
says "Unable to find Battery Bar or one of its components"
This is usually because the Battery Bar and/or Program Bar
plug-ins haven't yet been enabled. To do this, see the FAQ
item "I can't see anything on the home
screen" to enable them.
General
The Pocket PC
continually soft resets
Make sure the latest version of Journal Bar is installed,
as older versions can cause problems with a new version of
Battery Pack Pro. If the latest version is installed, or
Journal Bar isn't used, then check the other plug-ins on the
today screen. The today screen can only use so much memory to
run all the today plug-ins, and this maximum may be being
reached. Getting the latest updates to other 3rd party today
plug-ins may help, as if they are not designed for Windows
Mobile 2003 Second Edition or newer operating systems they may
be using a large amount of memory to run correctly.
Can I retain my user settings after a
hard reset?
The settings are actually in the registry. You could
retain your settings during a hard reset of the device by
using a registry editor program (Kilmist do an excellent
program) to export the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\OmegaOne key
to a .reg file, then import it after a hard reset.

How do I get Battery
Pack Pro to speak
to me?
Make sure the volume on your Pocket PC is all the way up.
At low volumes the speech notifications can be difficult to
hear.
Altering the Battery Bar options will allow you to tune when
Battery Bar speaks to you. To do this, select Start|Settings|Today.
Select the Items tab, select Battery Bar, then tap the Options
button. This will display the Battery Bar options. Check the
speech events you want to hear, along with when you want to
battery / memory warnings, and how often you wish to be notified.
The 'battery is fully charged' message sounds once when the
value of the battery trips up from a lower value (e.g. 99%) to
100% so if you are not near the device at the time you will
not hear this.
Please try changing the value that the low battery warning
sounds at and see if you can get a reaction out of it. The
warnings may not sound if you are not on the Today page at the
time so this is another possibility why you have not heard the
sound.
Please also ensure that the program is installed to the
main memory and not to a storage card.
You could try installing a new set of sound files to see if
that helps (you can get these from
here, or try reinstalling (deleting user settings when
prompted during uninstallation).
Battery Bar
I can't see the Battery Bar (iPAQ)
Go into the Today Options screen (Start | Settings | Today
| Items tab) and uncheck 'iPAQ Entertainment' and the Battery
Bar and Program Bar should appear on the today screen. If you
are still having problems please firstly try re-downloading
the file in case there was a problem during transfer the first
time, then reinstall.
How do I
change what's shown on the Battery Bar?
- Select Start, Settings,
Today.
- Select the Items tab.
- Select Battery Bar and tap the
Options button.
- Select the Customize tab.
The Battery Bar can display up to 6 "banks"
of information, some of which may need to be scrolled right to
view the information. Select which information you wish to
view here.
If you wish to display information for 2
different storage cards, this can be viewed through one
storage card "bank", or by selecting storage card in 2 "banks"
and setting each one to display different cards when back on
the Today Screen.
My Battery life reports
it's lower than I expected
Since everybody uses their Pocket PC in different ways, the
drain on the battery will be different. Battery Bar "learns"
how you use your Pocket PC to accurately display the battery
time remaining for how you use your device. After a certain
time it will start displaying battery time remaining. Over
the next few days of use the time remaining display will steadily
get more and more accurate.
Note: if you usually keep your Pocket PC fully charged all
the time it may take Battery Bar longer to generate an accurate
battery time remaining figure. In this instance, let your
Pocket PC discharge a little (down to 50-60% battery life)
once or twice.
Manufacturers advertise their Pocket PC will operate for
a certain amount of hours from a full charge. You will most
likely find the Battery Time Remain display will be a lot
lower than this figure. This is because your Pocket PC drains
the battery even when it is "off" (actually in standby
mode). Battery Time Remain only measures the time you are
using your Pocket PC (the time that is the most important
to you!).
When I save settings the device locks
up
Toshiba e800 devices running Windows Mobile 2003 SE have
been seen to have this problem. As a workaround, soft reset
the device and you should have the updated settings stored.
How do I change the default File
Explorer used by Battery Pack Pro?
To change the file explorer used by Battery Bar and
Program Bar, a registry value change is required. Under the
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ OmegaOne \ BatteryBar key,
create a string value "Explore" with the full path to the
alternate file explorer. e.g. to set it up to the default file
explorer, you would enter "\windows\fexplore.exe". You'll have
to then do a soft reset so that Battery Pack / Battery Pack
Pro can pick up the changes.
Note, we haven't tested this with all Explorer programs.
Battery Bar slows down the device
Although this is a rare occurrence, it has been seen by a
few users. To minimize the processing power Battery Bar uses,
disable the network monitor in the Battery Bar options, and
slow down the update rate in the "General" Battery Bar options
page.
How do I reset the Battery Time Remain
data?
To reset the battery life data you just need to go to the
settings screen for Battery Bar (Start | Settings | Today |
Items | Battery Bar | Options) and check 'reset battery time
remain'.
Which external batteries are
supported?
Only batteries used on iPAQs which were included in the
Expansion Sleeve are supported at this time. iPAQ models 31xx,
36xx, 37xx, 38xx, 39xx, 51xx and 54xx from 2000 - 2003
typically used these.
Will BP remember the battery time if
the expansion battery is removed?
Yes the program will remember the battery time remaining
if the CF pack is removed and put back. A hard reset will mean
the program has to learn about the battery usage once more -
hard reset sets the machine back to its factory defaults. A
soft reset is just hitting the reset button so this wouldn't
reset the program.
Where has the Expansion battery
display gone?
Expansion batteries were shown separately in previous
versions of Battery Pack, however since the release of Battery
Pack Pro 2.0.0. the two battery totals have been shown as one
total together on the Battery Bar to save space on the screen.
Reporting backup battery is low
A red exclamation mark may appear next to the battery icon
on the Battery Bar. This indicates that the information the device is
reporting to Battery Pack Pro appears as the backup battery is
low. It is possible that the device does not have a back up
battery but the way this is reported to Battery Pack Pro makes
it ambiguous.
How do I get memory and storage to
scroll automatically on Battery Bar?
If you tap the "storage icon" (actually the memory icon)
it will switch to the other. Tap the slider next to it and it
will launch the memory applet. Same for the storage card icon
- it should load the File Explorer, so you can see what's on
your storage card.
The backlight slider doesn’t work
Unfortunately the backlight slider does not work with
every device. It works with most iPAQs and some Toshiba and
Dell devices. We are continuing to work on adding support for
additional devices for further versions of Battery Pack Pro
where this becomes possible (due to manufacturer’s changes).
On some Pocket PCs the backlight can only be turned on and off
and no brightness adjustment is possible. This is due to the
ability of control which is exposed to us.
What does the ‘a’ stand for on Battery
Bar?
The 'a' icon turns auto-brightness on and off for devices
that support this, namely iPAQ 3800, 3900, 5400 & 5500 series
devices.
I can't find the network monitor
The Network Monitor can be found in Power Store (tap the
battery/folder icon on the left hand side of Battery Bar), you
can place it on the Battery Bar by going into the options
screen (tap the shortcut red/white icon on the right hand side
of Battery Bar) and add it to one of the locations on Battery
Bar.
To access this feature you must ensure that you have Battery
Pack Pro installed - for this you must have input your
registration code during installation, if you didn't do so you
will have Battery Pack 2004 installed. In this case you should
uninstall, download the installation file from your email
receipt (the file is called BPPOL.exe) and input your
registration code when requested during installation.
My Today Plug-ins won’t stay in the
order I put them in on the Today screen
Please try the Power Adjust application which is supplied
with Battery Pack Pro (you can download a demo from our
website if you do not have this installed), this has a ‘clean
today plug-in ordering’ feature which should resolve this
issue.
Power Store
What battery information is it showing in
Power Store?
Power Store shows information for the main battery and the
backup battery. On certain Pocket PC devices two batteries
are used to ensure data is backed up - a main rechargeable
battery and a separate coin cell backup battery. Power Store
shows information for both of these batteries.
Some Pocket PCs only have one battery - the main rechargeable
battery. In this case the backup battery will display in Power Store
with no information or as fully charged.
Power Store does not display information for any external
add-on batteries.
Why isn't Power Store showing all
my storage cards?
Power Store will show up to two storage cards. However, Battery
Bar has the ability to manually or automatically cycle through
all storage cards on the Pocket PC.
Program Bar
How do I change the icons on the Program
Bar?
- Select Start, Settings,
Today.
- Select the Items tab.
- Select Program Bar and tap the
Options button.
- Select the Customize tab.
To change the icons, tap the icon you wish
to change, then select the program to change it to from the
list at the top of the screen. You can leave a blank space
there if you wish, by selecting *no icon* from the list.
You can also drag and drop the icon to change places. Full
details are available in the help for Program Bar (see help
for Battery Pack Pro).
You should add the icons you wish to appear, in the order
you wish them to appear on the top rows of the Program Bar and
then select in 'number of lines' the number of rows you wish
to appear on the Today screen, i.e. if you wish 2 rows to
appear you choose '2' in this box and ensure that you have
placed the icons you wish to appear on the top two rows.
To show just the icons you require on Program Bar you
should place all required icons on the upper lines in the
settings screen. You can then set Program Bar to show the
minimum amount of lines required. Once Program Bar has been
set up to your preference you should not need to do this again
as when you uninstall the program to install future updates
you can choose to keep your user settings.
Can I use another File Explorer
program to view folders?
It's possible to change both Battery Bar and Program Bar to
use another file explorer program. It can be done by adding
two new registry entries:
Battery Bar
Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\OmegaOne\BatteryBar
String Value: Explore
Set the string value to the full path name of the new file
explorer program. For example:
\Program Files\Resco\Explorer.exe
Program Bar
Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\OmegaOne\ProgramBar
String Value: Explore
Set the string value to the full path name of the new file
explorer program. For example:
\Program Files\Resco\Explorer.exe
All the Program Bar icons look the
same
If the icons are not displaying correctly you should
uninstall, delete user settings and reinstall. You will then
have to set up your icons again, however you can use the drag
and drop method in the settings screen which should now show
the correct icons. You should also ensure that Battery Pack
Pro is installed to the main memory.
When I soft reset, Program Bar
disappears
This is probably due to installing Battery Pack Pro onto a
storage card. When the Pocket PC restarts it initializes the
today plug-ins before it's mounted all the storage card
volumes (so they can be used), hence it thinks the today
plug-ins are not present. If you install to main memory the
program should work without any problems.
If Battery Pack Pro is installed to the main memory then it
may be a problem with the Today plug-in ordering. Please try
uninstalling and reinstalling - if you have other Today
plug-ins installed it may help to uninstall them and reinstall
Battery Pack Pro first.
Alternatively you may need use a registry editor program (Kilmist's
Registry Editor is a good product) to go into the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Today key and alter the
"Order" setting for Program Bar to another value.
Why does Program Bar find double
entries?
Program Bar may find multiple references to
the same program whilst it searches on the Smartphone. The
reference more often than not point to the same product, so
either can be chosen.
Does Program Bar find programs
installed after Battery Pack Pro has been installed?
Every time you go into the Program Bar options page it
should rescan for new applications. It will rescan for new
settings applets only if new ones have been added (or some
have been removed). You should make sure the applications are
in the \windows\start menu folder, or Program Bar won't find
them. You can use a custom link to find others not in these
folders.
Why can't I see my documents as links
in Program Bar?
Only documents in the main memory can be linked (not on a
storage card, unless you create a custom link to do this - see
the next section for information on how to do this).
How do I add a custom link to Program
Bar?
To add a custom link you need to access the Program Bar
options screen. Then highlight the icon / space where you want
the new shortcut to be located. Select "* Custom Link *" from
the drop down list for the icon you want. It will bring up the
custom link dialog box and you type in the custom link.
For example, the calculator would be "\windows\calc.exe" for
the path, and nothing for the optional parameter. The optional
parameter is used to pass information to the program you want
to run. For example, you could run Internet Explorer with the
web site you want to display: e.g. "\windows\iexplore.exe" for
the path, and "http:/www.msn.com/" for the parameter. An Excel
file on the CF card would be \windows\pxl.exe in the first box
and then in the parameter \cf card\xxxxx.pxl (where xxxxx is
the name of the file) for a Word file it would be \windows\pword.exe
then in the parameter \cf card\xxxxx.psw (where xxxxx is the
name of the file).
The link has to be found by using File Explorer to look for
the program on the device. The program file is usually an .exe
or a .lnk file. Program Bar should show all the programs on
your system without you having to touch this option. This
option is intended for advanced users who have manually put a
program on a storage card to save program memory space.
To tell if a program is a .lnk or a .exe file, in File
Explorer it helps to look at the size of the file. If it's
something like "35B" (meaning 35 bytes), then it's got to be a
link. If it's bigger than 200 bytes, it's got to be an EXE.
If you browse the Pocket PC directories using the PC (right
click on the ActiveSync icon and select "Explore"), then it's
much more obvious - go to detailed view and it shows the file
type.
You can also paste a shortcut to the Start menu and Program
Bar should then find the program automatically. You should use
Explorer to highlight the program, press ‘copy’ then go to
Windows\Start Menu\Programs folder and "Paste Shortcut" which
will copy a shortcut. This is useful if you can't get the
custom shortcut to work first time.
Adding a custom link to a folder
To add a custom link you need to access the Program Bar
options screen. Then highlight the icon / space where you want
the new shortcut to be located. Select "* Custom Link *" from
the drop down list for the icon you want. It will bring up the
custom link dialog box and you type in the custom link.
To add a link to a folder you need to type into the ‘enter the
path and file name of the custom link’ box: \windows\fexplore.exe
and into ‘optional’: \storage card\
This will link to a folder in the root of the storage card,
but you can change the Path to be any folder on the Pocket PC.
Setting up Program Bar leaves blank
spaces or unwanted icons
To adjust the programs on Program Bar you need to assign
required icons to the blank spaces. In doing this you can put
all your required icons on the higher lines and then in the
options screen choose to show fewer lines which will mean the
lower ones with blank or unwanted icons are not shown.
You should only need to do this once as when you uninstall the
current version in order to update you can elect to keep your
user settings which includes the Program Bar set up.
Why is the date in standard US format
on Program Bar?
The format is currently fixed to: ddd, MMM d
ddd - The day of the week as a 3 letter concatenation
MMM - The month as a 3 letter concatenation
d - The day of the month (1-31).
However, for non-English Pocket PCs this will localize to the
3 day letter concatenations for this language.
Where is the Bluetooth shortcut?
To add a shortcut to the Bluetooth settings on Program Bar
you need to go into the Setting screen for Program Bar and add
a shortcut to ‘Settings – Bluetooth’ to one of the lines on
the Bar. If you can not see this item it may be that it is not
on your Pocket PC – to check you need to go to Start |
Settings | Connections, you should see a Bluetooth icon here.
My icons have suddenly changed on
Program Bar
The programs concerned are most likely installed on the
storage card. Go into the Today options page and then out
again, or a soft reset, to resolve this. If it continues to
happen please try uninstalling, deleting user settings and
reinstalling.
Power Alert
I'm getting two sound notifications
or no sound notifications at all.
This is most likely because the standard alarm sounds are
still activated. To turn them off, select Start | Settings | Sounds
& Notifications. Select the Notifications tab, and the
Reminders event. Uncheck the Play Sound check box, then tap
OK.
Power Task
The close button isn't appearing on the top of the screen.
To enable the Power Task button, make sure the Program Bar
displays the "Power Adjust" icon. Tap the Power Adjust icon on
the Program Bar and make sure the "Power Task button & menu"
check box is checked.
Note, Power Task may not work with other programs which
insert elements into the top menu bar. Power Task is not
designed to be compatible with these programs.
Power Bars
How can I move the battery & memory
bars in the title bar?
This is no longer possible in Battery Pack Pro v3.
Battery/memory and time/date overlap
on the title bar
The battery/memory details & date/time information are more or
less exclusive as they obscure one another. We thought we'd
give the option as people might like to see date/time and find
it more important than battery/memory info on the title bar.
You can move the battery and memory bars around using the
registry values above.
Power Time
Change from the default to another
currency
It isn't currently possible to change the exchange rate from
the default, however we hope to add this in the future.
How do I change the cities on Power
Time?
Go into Power Time you will see four icons in the bottom
right hand corner of the map. The one on the right hand side
is the settings button (orange icon), tap that and it will
take you to the settings screen to change the cities.
Power Time appears then disappears from
the screen quickly
If you are also using Journal Bar on the device you must
ensure that it is the latest version - 3.4.1 - as earlier
versions are not compatible with Power Time.
Power Adjust
What does the low battery
notification toggle do in Battery Pack?
This allows you to control the the notification in the
Settings | Sounds & Notifications applet. It adds a "Low
Battery Warning" item to allow you to edit it specifically.
Battery Pack Pro can suppress the pop-up warning box,
however the "bleep" warning, and the icon at the top of the
title bar will still appear when the battery is low.
