Installation
To download Battery Pack Pro to your Pocket PC:

  • Double click on the BPPOD.exe or BPPOL.EXE file you downloaded when you tried / purchased Battery Pack Pro.
  • Click on the "Extract" button.
  • Select "Yes" when prompted to create the directory.
  • Select "Yes" to run the program "Setup.exe".
  • Installation should begin (you will see the Omega One logo).

When installing onto your Pocket PC, always install to the default directory. Do not install to any other directory (such as on a storage card). Battery Pack Pro uses very little of your Program Memory.

Problems with installation
If you are having trouble installing, try the following:
Make sure you have the latest version of the Microsoft ActiveSync software. To download the latest version, go to http://www.microsoft.com/mobile/downloads.
Find the processor your device uses by going to Start, Settings, System on your Pocket PC (this will always be ARM for Pocket PC 2002 devices). Now open up the c:\OmegaOne\BattPack folder on your PC and you should find a batt.?.cab file, where ? is the name of the processor on your Pocket PC (either SH3, MIPS or ARM). Note, all Pocket PC 2002 & Pocket PC 2003 devices use the ARM processor. Make sure your Pocket PC is connected to your PC and right click on the ActiveSync icon on your PC's toolbar. Select Explore. This will display the My Documents folder on your Pocket PC. Drag the batt.?.cab file from the c:\OmegaOne\BattPack folder window to your Pocket PC folder window. The file you need is now on your Pocket PC. On your Pocket PC select Start, Programs, File Explorer. It should default to your My Documents folder when opening. Tap the batt.?.cab file and it should install.
Problems with reinstallation

If you are having trouble reinstalling a newer version of Battery Pack Pro, or are upgrading from the trial version to the full version you may have trouble with the BattBar.dll file being already in use.

To correct this: Uninstall the current version of Battery Pack Pro. See the Uninstallation instructions for more information.
Install the new version only when uninstallation is complete.

Using Battery Bar
Starting the Battery Bar
Battery Time Remaining
Tapping Battery Bar
The Battery Bar Display
Battery Bar Settings

Starting the Battery Bar
When you install Battery Pack Pro, the Battery Bar should show up automatically. If it doesn't:

  • Select Start, Settings, Today, Items.
  • In the list on the left find Battery Bar and check it. Note you can move the Battery Bar up and down your Today items by highlighting it and using the Move Up and Move Down buttons.
  • Tap OK, then Start, Today.

You should now see the Battery Bar on your today screen.

The Battery Time Remaining display
Since everybody uses their Pocket PC in different ways, the drain on the battery will be different. Battery Bar "learns" how you use your Pocket PC to accurately display the battery time remaining for how you use your device. After a certain time it will start displaying battery time remaining. Over the next few days of use the time remaining display will steadily get more and more accurate.

Note: if you usually keep your Pocket PC fully charged all the time it may take Battery Bar longer to generate an accurate battery time remaining figure. In this instance, let your Pocket PC discharge a little (down to 50-60% battery life) once or twice.

Manufacturers advertise their Pocket PC will operate for a certain amount of hours from a full charge. You will most likely find the Battery Time Remain display will be a lot lower than this figure. This is because your Pocket PC drains the battery even when it is "off" (actually in standby mode). Battery Time Remain only measures the time you are using your Pocket PC (the time that is the most important to you!).

Tapping the items on the Battery Bar
When tapped, many of the icons and text on the Battery Bar link to other useful functions, or change how the Battery Bar information is displayed. If you are experiencing problems getting to these functions, you may need to realign your screen. To do this, tap Start, then Settings, then Align.

What happens when you tap an area is described in the Understanding the Battery Bar section.

Understanding the Battery Bar display
The Battery Bar is split up into 6 separate areas:

Folder / Battery icon
Tap this icon to:

  • Swap Batteries - when the battery is swapped, tap here to help the Battery Time Remain feature recalibrate itself for each battery.
  • Display the Power Store application.
  • Display Battery Bar settings.
  • Display this help file.

Settings / Help Icon
On the right hand side of the Battery Bar the yellow settings icon allows access to the Battery Bar settings. The blue help icon views this help information.

Display Banks
Between these icons various information can be displayed including battery, memory, storage card, backlight, clock, network usage and time zone information.

Each piece of information is the same size so can fit into one of the 6 display banks that can be seen on the Battery Bar. To alter which information is displayed in which bank, see Battery Bar Settings.

The following information can be seen in these display banks:

Battery information
The battery slider shows how much battery life is left on your Pocket PC. Under normal conditions the display shows the battery icon, a bar showing the amount of battery life left, and text. The text shows one of the following three types of information:

  • How much Battery time is remaining (e.g. "5h 45m r"). "r" stands for "remaining". When the battery is charging this changes to show how long it will take for the battery to be fully charged (e.g. "1h 23m c"). "c" stands for "charging".
  • The percentage battery life remaining (e.g. "78%")
  • How long has elapsed since the battery was last charged (e.g. "1h 23m e"). "e" stands for "elapsed"

To switch between these three types of information tap the battery text.

To display more detailed battery information, tap the battery sliders or battery icon.

If a red warning icon appears on the battery icon, your backup battery is critically low and should be replaced.

Storage memory
The Storage Memory area shows the Storage Memory available on your Pocket PC. Tapping on the icon or text will display more detailed memory settings for your device.

Storage card(s)
The storage card area displays information about storage cards plugged into the Pocket PC. On some Pocket PCs it also shows information about the internal RAM disk (like an internal storage card). For more information on this type of storage memory, see your Pocket PC manual.

Below the storage icon is displayed the amount of space available on this storage card. Tapping this text switches between showing the amount of memory free as a percentage or in megabytes (MB).

Tapping the slider (or the right side of the storage icon in the large Battery Bar view) will start the File Explorer to allow you to explore data on your storage card(s).

Tapping the storage card icon (or the left side of the storage card icon in the large Battery Bar view) will change what information is displayed. By default the display will cycle through all storage cards currently inserted in the Pocket PC. Tapping the icon will stop this cycling and will allow you to permanently display one storage card. Tapping again will permanently display another storage card. Once all cards have been exhausted, tapping again will switch back to cycling through all storage cards.

Backlight
When tapped, the backlight icon displays the backlight settings.

Tapping the "a" button will turn the auto backlight adjustment on and off for iPAQ devices with this feature.

The slider below the backlight icon adjusts the backlight brightness. This feature currently on works for Dell, Toshiba & iPAQ devices (not iPAQ 1910).

Clock
This shows the time (and date if there is space). Tapping on the time will allow the user to change the current time.

Network Monitor
The network icon will flash the two computer screens during uploading and downloading on the current network connection. By clicking below the network icon, the network monitor will cycle through total transferred, amount uploaded, amount downloaded, upload rate and download rate.

Tapping on the Network Icon will allow the user to change which network connection is being viewed and view useful network information.

The Network Monitor feature is only available in Battery Pack Pro v1 and later.

Time Zone Information
The Time Zone information displays each of the four Power Time cities around the world along with the current time at this location and the current weather conditions. To choose different cities, see Power Time.

Tapping on the time for each city swaps between the four Power Time cities. Tapping anywhere else launches Power Time to view more detailed information about this city.
The Time Zone feature is only available in Battery Pack Pro v2 and later. For more information on how to upgrade, see www.batterypackpro.com.

In the Type of Tab combo box, other types of tab can be created. For example, the tab can display Owner Information, Tasks information, the Search Bar, Calendar Bar, Battery Bar, Journal Bar, or other third party plug-ins like the MSN plug-in. Remember to disable the plug-in to get it to display. To do this go to Start | Settings | Today | Items and deselect that plug-in from the today screen.

Select a tab and tap Edit Tab to edit this tab.

Select a tab and tap Delete Tab to delete the tab.

When adding or editing a tab the default icon for the tab can be changed as well as the readable name. Check / uncheck Show text in title to show / hide the tab name when it's displayed in the Program Bar.

Options
Show Tab Title controls whether all tabs show the icon and text, just the icons, or just the text.

Title Bar adjusts the size of the tabs. They are set to Large by default, but can be made smaller, or even hidden. If they are hidden a button appears on the right hand side of the Program Bar to switch between tabs.

If Use the Current tab's height is checked, the height of the Program Bar will change to suit that tab. If it's unchecked, Program Bar will take the height of the largest tab and won't adjust it's height.
