Using 1-Calc
1-Calc is the only calculator you'll ever need, working like your favorite calculator, only better.  It supports 4 different calculator "modes", meaning it can behave like 4 different calculator types depending on the settings: R.P.N. (HP, Texas Instruments Etc), Algebraic (most scientific), D.A.L. (advanced scientific) or Chain (simple).

Use the directional pad on the MS Smartphone with the 12 button keypad to enter numbers and complete calculations in 1-Calc. The onscreen buttons will directly map to the physical buttons on your device. Pressing left or right on the directional pad will change button groups. Press up and down to move the white on screen selector. You can activate the currently selected button by pressing the center of the d-pad. Access the menu at any time by pressing the right menu button (soft key). Use the menu to quickly change calculator screens, access the options, help or exit the program.  Pressing the left menu button allows quick access to the most common calculator functions. Pressing the Back button acts as backspace, holding the Back button does a full clear from any screen.

This document is written assuming you are using the default skin that came with 1-Calc. If you are using a different skin and are unfamiliar with the operation of 1-Calc, it is recommended that you first select the default skin before reading further. To do so, press the menu button, located in the lower right of the 1-Calc screen and press "Options". From the options screen, press "menu" again and select "skins". From this screen you should see one or more skin names displayed, select "default" and then press "Done".

Simple Calculations
On devices with alphanumeric keyboards, doing simple calculations is trivial. For example, for the calculation "12+34", press "1", "2", then the key that corresponds to the "+" sign, then "3", "4" and the key that corresponds to "=". The 1-Calc screen displays which physical button corresponds to which operation on the alphanumeric keyboard.

On devices with a simple numeric keypad, switching between the "main buttons" and "default" screens has much the same effect. For example, for the "12+34" example press "1", "2", then the "Default" soft key (or press "right" on the d-pad), then "+" (the "1" key), then "3", "4", "=". Notice that once the operation has been selected the screen automatically moves back to show the main numeric buttons to speed up common operations.

Currency Converter
The Currency Converter can be displayed by selecting "Currency Converter" from the 1-Calc menu. If you cannot see the currency converter, you'll need to select it from the "Groups" page under "Options".

If your Smartphone has Internet access it is synchronized using ActiveSync, 1-Calc can download the latest currency conversion rates by pressing the "Update" button.

The Currency Converter has two display areas. The top display shows the value to be converted from. The lower display automatically shows the converted value. To change the conversion currencies, press up and down to move the onscreen selector. Press the Action key (the middle of the d-pad) while on the From or To buttons to display a list of currencies.

To switch the From and To currencies, press the "Switch" button.

The currency converter will save the last four (4) used currencies at the top of the currency list.

For more information on the Currency Converter, please see the Currency Options section.

Unit Converter
The Unit Converter can be displayed by selecting "Unit Converter" from the 1-Calc menu. If you cannot see the unit converter, you'll need to select it from the "Groups" page under "Options".

To change between different conversion types, use the up/down buttons to move to the "Conversion" button and select it. To choose between different units, use the "From" and "To" buttons. To swap the "To" and "From" unit types, press the "Switch" button. To enter the value to convert, simply press the numbers on the numeric keypad. The converted value displays automatically.

Tip Calculator
The Tip Calculator can be displayed by selecting "Tip Calculator" from the 1-Calc menu. If you cannot see the tip calculator, you'll need to select it from the "Groups" page under "Options".

The Tip calculator screen will display the Bill Amount at the top of the screen. This can be entered using the Smartphone's main number pad. It will display the appropriate Tip Amount and Total Amount per person immediately based on the Tip Calculator settings.

To change the tip percentage or number of people, press up/down on the directional pad to select one of the two onscreen buttons. To change a value, press the center of the directional pad.

Calculator Options

Notation
This controls the way 1-Calc handles large and small values displayed onscreen. Change the notation style by selecting a different option in the notation section.

Normal - is the default, this will use exponents if the calculated answer is smaller that 0.0001 or 1e-4. It will also use exponents if the calculated answer is 1000000000 ( 1.0e10) or larger.

Scientific - will select Scientific notation. Exponents will always be used for numbers less than 1 or equal to 10 or greater. Numbers between 1 and 10 will not display the exponent portion as the exponent will be equal to zero.

Fixed - will select fixed notation. Fixed notation will not display answers using exponents until the answer exceeds the calculators display accuracy of 12 significant figures. It will use exponents for numbers less than 0.000000001 (1.0e-9). Like Standard , it will use exponents for numbers equal to and greater than 1000000000 ( 1.0e10).

Engineering - will select Engineering notation. It operates much like Scientific notation except that exponents will always be represented in powers of 3. For example. Scientific Notation will represent 10000 as 1e4, Engineering Notation will represent it as 10e3. For numbers greater than 1 and less than 1000, no exponent will be shown as the exponent value will be zero.

*Please note, the above mentioned tolerances refer to the absolute value of an answer and not just the positive representation. For example, Standard and Fixed will use exponents for numbers larger than 1.0e10 or less than -1.0e10.

Calculator Mode
1-Calc can operate in four (4) different calculator modes:

Algebraic - behaves like a basic scientific calculator.

D.A.L. - Direct Algebraic Entry, behaves like an advanced direct input scientific calculator.  Some functions can be entered before entering the values.

Chain (Simple) - Works like a simple handheld calculator.

R.P.N - Reverse Polish Notation.

R.P.N. Stack Size
The stack size can for R.P.N. mode can be adjusted between a 3, 4, and 12 layer stack.  This only affects 1-Calc in R.P.N. Calculator mode.

Repeated Equals
When 1-Calc is in Chain (simple) mode, the equals key can be pressed repeatedly after a calculation to repeat the previous calculation.

Use Regional Setting (Calculator)
This will make 1-Calc format the calculator display according to the Regional Settings of your Smartphone.

Use Regional Setting (Currency)
Use the regional settings for this country for the currency converter (e.g. to show commas between separators, or to change the decimal point character).

Groups Options
You can use this screen to select which groups will appear in the menu and be accessible from the up and down buttons on your Smartphone. If you select more than five groups 1-Calc will warn you and only use the first five groups. If you select zero groups, 1-Calc will warn you and it won't save your changes.

Press "1" to move the currently selected item to the top of the list.

Press "2" to move the currently selected item up one item.

Press "3" to move the currently selected item down one item.

Auto Update
Check this box to let 1-Calc automatically update the currency information.

Update Now
If you have Internet access or have your Smartphone synchronized with a PC you can get the latest currency conversion rates by pressing this button.

You can view the current currency values in the bottom half of the Currency Tab screen. The vales represent the US value of 1 unit of currency. For example, at the time this document was written, the Australian Dollar exchange rate was 0.986. This means, 1 Australian dollar is worth $0.97 US.

Skins Options
From this screen, you may select any installed Skins. By default, 1-Calc only comes with one installed skin called "Default". Other skins are available - see www.1calc.com for more information.

Since the act of creating a new skin for 1-Calc are complex and will most likely require a desktop PC, help for skinning is not provided in this document. For more information on skinning 1-Calc, please visit www.1calc.com

Purchasing
If you enjoyed using the this version of 1-Calc and would like to purchase it, please go to www.1calc.com.

The full version of 1-Calc 3.0 requires a Registration Code, this code will be provided at the time or purchase or will be emailed to you promptly.
