Installation
Battery Pack Lite won't install
If you are having trouble with the standard method of
installation you can use this alternative method instead. This
specifically involves locating the .cab file in the c:\Program
Files\Omega One\BPP directory:
- Dock the Pocket PC.
- Right click on the ActiveSync icon on the system tray
and select "Explore".
- Open an explorer window where the batt.arm.cab file is
on your desktop PC (usually c:\Program Files\Omega One\BPP).
- On the desktop pc drag the .cab file from the Explorer
window and drop it into the ActiveSync Explore window (this
copies the file to the Pocket PC).
- Undock the Pocket PC and select Start | Programs | File
Explorer.
- Find the .cab file and tap on it. Installation will
begin.
When installing onto your Pocket PC, always install to the
default directory. Do not install to any other directory (such
as on a storage card). Battery Pack Lite uses very little
of your Program Memory.
Uninstallation
How do I
uninstall?
You need to go to Start | Settings | System | Remove
Programs. Then highlight Battery Pack Lite and tap Remove.
Follow the instructions on the screen (soft reset the device
and repeat the ?remove programs? procedure).
Battery Pack Lite won't uninstall
(.dll file still in use)
You need to first do a soft reset, then install Battery Pack
Lite again. When it says programs are running (Battbar.dll most
likely), continue with the installation and just don't copy over
this file. It's very important installation completes, although
copying over the files running doesn't matter.
You should then be able to uninstall. See the
Help file
for information on how uninstallation should occur. Note, you
will need to perform a soft reset before uninstallation will be
successful.
Then please install Battery Pack Lite once more if required. It
should install without any warnings of files in use and all
should work. You should install to main memory (if you have a
storage card it will ask you).
Battery Bar
Starting
the Battery Bar
When you install Battery Pack Lite, the Battery Bar
should show up automatically. If it doesn't:
- Select Start, Settings, Today, Items tab.
- In the list on the left find Battery Bar and check it. Note
you can move the Battery Bar up and down your Today items
by highlighting it and using the Move Up and Move Down buttons.
- Tap OK, then Start, Today.
You should now see the Battery Bar on your today screen.
The same applies to the Program Bar.
Understanding the Battery Bar display
The Battery Bar is split up into 6 separate areas:
Folder / Battery icon
Tapping this gives information on Battery Pack Pro which
contains many more features than Battery Pack Lite.
Battery information
The battery slider shows how much battery life is left on
your Pocket PC.
Storage / Program memory
The Storage / Program Memory area shows the Storage Memory
and Program Memory available on your Pocket PC. Storage Memory
is represented by a hard disk icon, Program Memory by a chip
icon.
Tapping the memory icon (or left hand side of the memory
icon on the large Battery Bar view) will change whether Storage
Memory or Program Memory is displayed. By default Battery
Bar will cycle automatically between Program Memory and Storage
Memory. Tapping the icon will stop this cycling and will permanently
display Storage Memory. Tapping again will permanently display
Program Memory. Tapping once more will switch back to cycling
through Program Memory and Storage Memory.
Displaying Storage Memory can be useful in showing how much
memory you have available to install new programs to your
Pocket PC.
The slider shows how much memory is available. The text below
shows either:
Memory used in terms of megabytes (MB)
Memory used as a percentage
To switch between these two types of information tap the text.
Tapping on the slider (or on the right hand side of the memory
icon on the large Battery Bar view) will display more detailed
memory settings for your device (also allowing you to adjust
your Pocket PC to give you more storage memory or program
memory).
Storage card(s)
The storage card area displays information about all the storage
cards you have plugged into your Pocket PC at any time. Note
- on some Pocket PCs it also shows information about the internal
RAM disk (like an internal storage card). For more information
on this type of storage memory, see your Pocket PC manual.
Below the storage icon is displayed the amount of space available
on this storage card. Tapping this text switches between showing
the amount of memory free as a percentage or in megabytes
(MB).
Tapping the slider (or the right side of the storage icon
in the large Battery Bar view) will start the File Explorer
to allow you to explore data on your storage card(s).
Tapping the storage card icon (or the left side of the storage
card icon in the large Battery Bar view) will change what
information is displayed. By default the display will cycle
through all storage cards currently inserted in the Pocket
PC. Tapping the icon will stop this cycling and will allow
you to permanently display one storage card. Tapping again
will permanently display another storage card. Once all cards
have been exhausted, tapping again will switch back to cycling
through all storage cards.
Backlight
When tapped, the backlight icon displays the backlight settings.
The slider below the backlight icon adjusts the backlight
brightness.
How do I get memory and storage to
scroll automatically on Battery Bar?
If you tap the "storage icon" (actually the memory icon)
it will switch to the other. Tap the slider next to it and it
will launch the memory applet. Same for the storage card icon
- it should load the File Explorer, so you can see what's on
your storage card.
Program Bar
How can I use the Program Bar?
The Program Bar lists commonly used applications on the Pocket
PC, as well as showing the current date. Tap the date to
change the time & date. Tap an icon to launch that program.
Tapping and holding an icon will display more information
about that icon; the program name and the path and filename to
run this program.
If you wish to edit the icons on the Program Bar, please
purchase Battery Pack Pro.
This gives many more features than Battery Pack Lite.
Can't add icons to the Program Bar
This feature is available in the full version of Battery Pack
Pro. See www.omegaone.com for upgrade information.
When I soft reset, Program Bar
disappears
This is probably due to installing Battery Pack Lite onto
a storage card. When the Pocket PC restarts it initializes the
today plug-ins before it's mounted all the storage card
volumes (so they can be used), hence it thinks the today
plug-ins are not present. If you install to main memory the
program should work without any problems.
If Battery Pack Lite is installed to the main memory then
it may be a problem with the Today plug-in ordering. Please
try uninstalling and reinstalling - if you have other Today
plug-ins installed it may help to uninstall them and reinstall
Battery Pack Lite first.
Alternatively you may need use a registry editor program (Kilmist's
Registry Editor is a good product) to go into the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Today key and alter the
"Order" setting for Program Bar to another value.
Why is the date in standard US format
on Program Bar?
The format is currently fixed to: ddd, MMM d
ddd - The day of the week as a 3 letter concatenation
MMM - The month as a 3 letter concatenation
d - The day of the month (1-31).
However, for non-English Pocket PCs this will localize to the
3 day letter concatenations for this language.
