Introduction
Thanks for trying or purchasing 1-HomeEdit.

1-HomeEdit is a home screen designer for Windows Mobile Standard (Smartphone) devices. It will allow you to:

  • Alter the home screen background image.
  • Change the colors used on the device.
  • Change the home screen font size.
  • Change which elements or "plug-ins" are displayed on the home screen.

Running 1-HomeEdit
Once 1-HomeEdit has been installed, go to the "Programs" menu and select the "1-HomeEdit" application.

Committing your changes
Remember to press the "Set Home Page" button to save any changes made to the home screen.

Plug-ins
A plug-in is a horizontal element on the home screen. Example plug-ins are the most recently used application icons, the icon bar at the top of the home screen, or the plug-in which displays the carrier, date and time.

On the left hand side of the 1-HomeEdit screen are the list of plug-ins that were detected on the device. Use the up and down buttons to move between them and press the action button to enable or disable them. This will show or hide them on the home screen.

Use the "1" button to move a plug-in to the top of the list. This will move it to the top of the home screen. Use the "2" button to move it up one position, the "3" button to move it down one position and the "4" button to move it to the bottom of the home screen.

Some plug-ins will have more detailed information for them. Display this by pressing the "6" button.

Some plug-ins can be customized. Use the "6" button to read the description to learn how they can be altered and then the "5" button to change the settings.

Some plug-ins may not look familiar. This is because some plug-ins only show information when required. For example, the "Missed Call" plug-in will display information on a missed call on the home screen only if a call has been missed.

Background Image
Alter the home screen's background image by selecting "Menu", then "Background".

Use the left/right buttons to move between the background images on the device.

Some images may be too large for the screen. In this case the image can be resized by selecting "Menu", then "Resize to screen". This is handy for images taken with the device's camera which are typically too big for the home screen.

If the image is the wrong orientation for the screen, select "Menu", then "Rotate image 90°" to rotate it. Keep selecting this option until the image is the correct orientation. If there is a problem doing the rotation because there isn't enough memory, select "Menu", "Resize to screen" first, then do the rotation.

Press the "Preview" button to see what the image will look like on a sample home screen.

Some images may be too large to display. In this case, try turning the device off, then back on to close as many programs as possible to free up memory so the image can be viewed.

To copy images to your device from the PC, see the device's instructions on copying files from the PC to the device. The images should be copied into the "My Documents", "My Pictures" or the device's storage card if one is installed.

1-HomeEdit comes with come default backgrounds. If you wish to save memory on your device you can remove them. Delete the JPG and PNG images in the \Program Files\OmegaOne\HSE folder. Alternately they can be moved to a storage card.

Press "Done" to accept the changes. Use the back key to cancel and back out any changes.

Font
The font on the home screen can be changed in size, and from normal to bold. This may be useful to see text on the home screen more clearly, or to be able to fit more text on the screen.

To change the font, from within the 1-HomeEdit application select "Menu", then "Font".

The top box allows the default font to be changed. There is typically only one font on the device, but if more are installed they will appear here.

Press "down" to move to the next box which allows the font size to be changed. Use the left and right buttons to select the font size.

Press "down" to move to the "Bold Text" check box. Use this to change whether the font is normal or bold.

Press "down" once more to move to the "Use for all plug-ins" check box. Some plug-ins have their own font size. Checking this box will override these settings and use the same font for all plug-ins on the home screen.

At the bottom of the screen the "1-HomeEdit" text will change size and weight depending upon the changes that are made. Press the "Preview" button to see what the text will look like on a sample home screen.

Press "Done" to accept the changes. Use the back key to cancel and back out any changes.

Colors
Most colors on the device can be altered. 1-HomeEdit comes with 20 predefined color themes which can be selected by going to "Menu", then "Load Theme". For more information on themes click here.

To create a new color theme or if an existing color needs to be tweaked, select "Menu", then "Colors".

To change the system colors, from within the 1-HomeEdit application select "Menu", then "Colors". Use the left/right buttons to switch between the different color elements to change on the device. A small green arrow points to the element which is currently being altered.

Once the correct element has been navigated to, press "down" to move to the "Red" text box. Using the left/right, backspace and 1-0 keys, enter a new red value from 0 to 255. Then press "down" again to move to the "Green" box, then "down" again to move to the "Blue" box. a Red, Green, Blue (RGB) value of 0,0,0 gives a color of black, and 255,255,255 gives white. To experiment on colors, it may be useful to use the Paint application on the PC. Launch the PC's Paint program, then select "Color", "Edit Colors", then press the "Define Custom Colors >>" button to choose a color. Use the Red, Green and Blue numbers in 1-HomeEdit.
