Installation Instructions
Before installing 1-Pass, you should disable any
existing password on the Pocket PC, and uninstall any other
third party password products, which may interfere with 1-Pass.
Once installation is complete, you will be asked to enter
your hard & soft passwords. More information of what these are
is described in the Entering a password
section.
Entering a Password
Pass has two main methods for entering a password:
Hard Key Password
The hard key password is entered using the physical buttons on
your Pocket PC device, for example the
up/down/left/right/enter buttons, plus the voice record,
calendar, contacts, e-mail etc. buttons. The power button is
not used.
When 1-Pass is started, the hard key password is entered
first. The password can be any length from 1 to 20 buttons
long, enabling you to create a very secure password.
Using the hard key password has several important advantages:
- It's much faster to enter your password. When you have to
enter a password several times a day this becomes a major
consideration.
- You don't dirty your screen by tapping on it with your
finger.
Even if you decide to use the soft key password as your
primary password, it's recommended you enter a hard key
password and store the sequence for future reference, in case
you forget your soft key password.
Soft Key Password
The soft key password is entered using the numeric buttons on
the 1-Pass password screen. This can be done either with the
stylus, or your finger, as the buttons are designed to be big
enough to hit with a finger. The password can be any length
from 1 to 20 numbers long.
Even if you use the hard key password as your primary
password, it's recommended you enter a soft key password and
store the number for future reference, in case you forget your
hard key password.
When you dock your device, it may ask for your password on
the PC.
You should enter your soft key password.
Key Locking
1-Pass also allows the option to lock your Pocket PC like you
lock the keys on your mobile phone. With this option enabled,
the Pocket PC is not password enabled: when you power on your
Pocket PC you need to press up then down in quick succession
on the keypad to unlock the device. For information on how to
enable this feature, see 1-Pass Settings.
The 1-Pass Screen
When 1-Pass asks you to enter a password, the screen
displays other items on the screen. Note, this information can be displayed or
not displayed. See the 1-Pass Settings section for information
on how to do this.
Name / Phone number / E-mail address
If your Pocket PC is lost, it's important that the person who finds it knows
who's device it is so they can return it. To this end, 1-Pass displays this
information on the password screen.
Clock
When you turn on your Pocket PC, one thing you may want to know is the current
time, so you know if you're late for a meeting or not. 1-Pass displays this
information as either an analog clock or a digital clock.
Date
On the title bar the current date it shown. This can be hidden if not required.
Battery Bar
If you own Battery Pack from Omega One, battery and memory information can be
displayed on the password screen. Note, Battery Pack v5.3 and beyond is
compatible with this feature.
Journal Bar
If you own Journal Bar from Omega One, any of the Journal Bar sections (with the
exception of "Links") can be displayed. This can be useful to display the 5 day
weather forecast, current news headlines, or the latest prices of your favorite
stocks. Journal Bar v2.0.3 and beyond is compatible with this feature.
Next Appointment
The next upcoming appointment is displayed. If you're looking at your Pocket PC
just so you can see where you need to be next, you don't even need to enter your
password!
Background Image
The background image, the title bar and the clock can be swapped out for new
images. For more information on how to do this, see Skinning 1-Pass.
1-Pass Settings
To adjust the settings:
- Select Start, Settings, 1-Pass.
- If the password is enabled you will need to enter either
the hard key or soft key password.
Password Settings
On this screen the password can be enabled or disabled. The
key locking option can also be selected.
Lock if device powered off for:
The amount of time the device is powered off before the
password feature is activated can be set between 0 minutes and
24 hours.
Lock if device unused for:
This is only available on Windows Mobile 2003 Pocket PCs and
newer. The amount of time until the password screen is
displayed when the device is left idle can be set between
Never and 24 hours.
To change the password, tap the Change Password button.
Screen Settings
Each of the items on the password screen (your name, phone
number, e-mail address, the clocks etc...) can be displayed or
not displayed in this screen. For example, if you feel your
next appointment information is too sensitive for people to
see, you can disable showing this information.
By default 1-Pass displays all text with Microsoft's ClearType
technology enabled. On most devices this makes the text
clearer to read. If you do not want to use ClearType to
display the text, this can be unselected here.
When the soft numeric keys are pressed, a key click is heard.
If you don't want this sound, it can be disabled here.
To change the color the text appears on the password screen,
tap the Set Text Color button. This can be useful if
the background image is changed to a light color - the text
color can be changed to a dark color.

information of this version of 1-Pass.
Locking the device
Auto Locking
On Windows Mobile 2003 Pocket PCs and newer, 1-Pass can lock
the device automatically after several minutes (just like your
desktop does when you leave it). To see how to change the
period of time until 1-Pass is displayed, see the 1-Pass
Settings section.
Manual Locking
1-Pass can also be manually locked at any time (and all Pocket
PCs support this feature). This can be done in two ways:
Lock Devices Program
Under Start | Programs you will find an icon
called Lock Device. Tapping on this program will
display the 1-Pass screen.
This program can be mapped to a hard button on the device
(e.g. the Voice Record button), so the device can be
quickly locked at will. To do this, go to Start |
Settings | Buttons, select the button you wish,
then select Lock Device from the list of programs.
This program can also be added as a program on the Program
Bar, if you have Battery Pack installed.
Power Task
If you have installed Battery Pack, 1-Pass includes an
extra item in the Power Task menu (the drop down menu
from the close button at the top right of the screen).
Skinning 1-Pass

1-Pass Skinning.
Troubleshooting
How can I access 1-Pass's options?
Select Start, Settings, 1-Pass. You will
need to enter your password to access the 1-Pass settings..
When I dock my PC asks for a password. What
do I enter?
Enter the soft key numeric password you entered when you first
started 1-Pass. If you have forgotten your soft key password,
go to the 1-Pass options page to change the password (using
your hard key password).
I've forgotten one of my passwords!
Go to the 1-Pass options screen to change your password. Use
the password you still have to gain access to the options
screen and tap Change Password.
I've forgotten both of my passwords!
Please contact us by clicking
here.
How do I change the background image?
See the Skinning 1-Pass section.
Why can I see two password programs in the
Settings screen?
On certain devices, other password programs may be available
in the Settings page (e.g. on the HP iPAQ 5455 / 5555). DO NOT
use this password settings application whilst 1-Pass is
installed. Using these programs may result in being locked out
of your device and having to revert to the factory installed
settings.
Why can't I access the "Lock if device
unused for:" item?
Original Pocket PC & Pocket PC 2002 devices unfortunately
don't support the auto locking feature.
Why aren't my Windows Media Player hard
buttons working?
Unfortunately, 1-Pass isn't compatible with using the Windows
Media Player hard button controlling feature.
